Groundhog Day
This day used to be called Candlemas Day until the settlers of North America spun it in a new way. Much like how we say that if the groundhog comes out of it's hole and sees it's shadow then there will be six more weeks of winter. But if it does not then spring must be close.
According to the old English saying:
If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Winter will not come again.
From Germany:
For as the sun shines on Candlemas Day,
So far will the snow swirl until May.
For as the snow blows on Candlemas Day,
So far will the sun shine before May.
Some interesting facts from Groundhog Day:
1982 - Shadow = coldest January this Century.
1983 - No Shadow = predicted an early spring after a mild El Nino Winter.
hmmmmmmmmmm.......

Valentine's Day
According to legend, St. Valentine made a special card with a picture of a fuzzy bear that he drew himself and it said, "I couldn't bear it if you were not my Valentine!" He took that card to school with him the next day and slid it into the desk of a girl he had a crush on. She like it a lot but her boyfriend really didn't like it that much. Okay, so it's a legend that I made up, but St. Valentine had something to do with it.

Random Acts of Kindness Day
In 1995 US Congress decided to make an official Random Acts of Kindness Day. If you don't do a R.A.O.K. that day you will be sent to jail for a term no less than 1 year, not to be released until the following R.A.O.K. Day. Not really, but wouldn't it be great if we were kind to each other every day of the year? Make a special point to do a random kind act this day.

Ash Wednesday
46 days before Easter, Catholics start what is called Lent. A somber time where one reflects on what Christ did on the cross by giving up something special to them for the month. This somber time is basically the exact opposite from Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday) AKA Pancake Day where people gorge on food like pancakes and empty their fridges of meat, fat, dairy, etc. Sometimes, depending on the amount of food they have, eating yummy food all day long.
